Patient Charged After Assaulting Nurse With Apple Juice Bottle

MANAHAWKIN — A disturbance at a long-term care facility in Stafford Township ended with the arrest of a Trenton man accused of assaulting a healthcare worker, authorities said.

According to the Stafford Township Police Department, officers were called shortly after 1:15 p.m. December 26 to Manahawkin Health & Rehabilitation Center on Route 72 for a report of a disorderly patient.

Police said a 37-year-old male patient struck a nurse in the head with a bottle of apple juice, resulting in minor injuries. The nurse was treated and did not require hospitalization. The patient was not identified.

The suspect was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault on a healthcare worker under state law.

Investigators also learned the man was wanted on multiple outstanding warrants issued by Freehold Township Municipal Court, Trenton Municipal Court and Bucks County Superior Court in Pennsylvania.

Following processing, he was transported to the Ocean County Jail, where he remains held pending extradition to Pennsylvania. Patrolman Ryan Cahill was the arresting officer.
