
BARNEGAT — Authorities are investigating the cause of a fire that damaged a home on East Thorn Avenue Tuesday night, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said police and firefighters were dispatched to the residence at about 8:30 p.m. after reports of a structure fire. When emergency crews arrived, they observed fire coming from the front door and a window.
The fire was extinguished, and no injuries were reported.
Barnegat Township Fire officials said Deputy Chief 1110 was the first to arrive on scene and confirmed a working fire. Firefighters from Barnegat Volunteer Fire Company Station 11 were assisted by mutual aid companies from Forked River, Stafford Township and Waretown. Barnegat Township police assisted with traffic control in the area.

The scene was later turned over to investigators from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit–Arson Squad, the Barnegat Township Police Department Detective Bureau, the Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit.
Fire officials also thanked Wawa on Bayshore Drive for donating refreshments to assist crews during post-incident recovery.
The investigation into the cause and origin of the fire remains ongoing.
