STAFFORD — A man with an outstanding warrant was arrested after police said they found drugs and a weapon during a search outside a local Walmart.

The Stafford Township Police Department’s Drug Enforcement Unit reported that around 6:40 p.m. on April 24, officers were in the area of the Walmart on Route 72 when they spotted Kevin Gallagher, 48, of Atlantic City. Authorities said Gallagher was known to officers from prior encounters and had an active warrant for his arrest.

Police took Gallagher into custody at the scene. During a search following the arrest, officers said they recovered a quantity of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a cleaver-style knife.

Gallagher was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, certain persons not to have a weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was processed at Stafford Township police headquarters and later transported to the Ocean County Jail, where he is being held pending a detention hearing in Superior Court.

Gallagher had been arrested back in January of this year on a similar charge.

All charges are accusations, and Gallagher is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
