STAFFORD — A Florida man was arrested after police said a late-night traffic stop in Stafford Township led officers to suspected methamphetamine, steroids and several weapons inside his vehicle.
Stafford Township police said Patrolmen O’Rourke and Okinsky stopped a vehicle around 12:44 a.m. Friday, August 7, near Route 9 North and Mary Bell Road.
The driver was identified as Charles Clemons, 49, of Altha, Florida.
Police said the officers developed reason to suspect Clemons had a controlled dangerous substance in the vehicle or on his person.
During a search, officers reported finding a large machete, a fixed-blade knife and a Glock 19-style CO2-powered pistol. Police said the pistol is classified as a prohibited weapon.
Authorities said officers also recovered suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and anabolic steroids.
Clemons was arrested and taken to Stafford Township Police Department headquarters for processing. He was later released on a complaint summons pending an appearance in Ocean County Superior Court.
O’Rourke was listed as the arresting officer.
The charges are accusations. Clemons is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
