LACEY – The Township Committee will soon be awarding its animal control contract after the first of January.

Resident Pat Doyle noted that “the Township Committee can decide to again award the contract to our current animal control officer, A-Academy, a pest control company, or award the contract back to Popcorn Park and many of us support Popcorn Park.”

Doyle said residents and fellow animal supporters Barry Bendar and Lisa Tarzia had started the petition which it is hoped, will persuade the governing body to select Popcorn Park Zoo which is based in the Bamber Lake section of the township.

The topic is coming up at two upcoming meetings. They include a Lacey Board of Health meeting on December 9. The Board of Health oversees animal control services. The Township Committee meets a day later on December 10. These meetings are at 7 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., respectively, and take place at the municipal building on Lacey Road.

“Let’s show our township committee that Lacey voters and taxpayers want a humane animal control officer – Popcorn Park,” Doyle said.
