WARETOWN – Family friends have started a GoFundMe for the former high school champion wrestler who died in a crash on the Garden State Parkway New Year’s Day.

Alexander Sebahie, 21, of Paramus, struck a pole with his Nissan Altima at mile marker 70 in Waretown around 4:15 a.m. Jan. 1. New Jersey State Police said he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

He wrestled for Paramus High School all four years of his high school career, and finished in the state’s top 10 wrestlers in 2014 and 2015. According to reports, he won more than 100 bouts and earned a partial wrestling scholarship to Rider University in Lawrence, New Jersey.

The GoFundMe page was created by Michele Hulahan on behalf of family member Rania Fragoso.

“It is with a heavy heart that I ask for your thoughts and prayers to go out to the Sebahie family of Paramus.  Another tragedy has hit our community in the passing of their beloved son Alex early this morning. Alex was a great son and accomplished student athlete. He will be missed by many friends and family for a long time to come. As a community let’s rally together and support one of our own. Please help the Sebahie family in Alex’s memory.  Thank you in advance for your support and prayers,” the page said.

At this writing, $22,341 out of $25,000 has been donated by 205 people.
