LITTLE EGG HARBOR — A reported odor of gas inside a local nursing and rehabilitation facility led to a precautionary emergency response today, but the situation was resolved quickly and without injury.
Police, firefighters and emergency medical crews were called to the SeaCrest Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center on Center Street after staff detected the odor inside the building. Out of an abundance of caution, residents in the rear portion of the facility were temporarily relocated to the front section while the building was checked.
Fire personnel worked alongside technicians from New Jersey Natural Gas to inspect the facility. During the response, multiple ambulances from several agencies were positioned along Center Street, a sight that drew attention from nearby residents and motorists.
Officials said the ambulances were staged in case a full evacuation became necessary, but that step was not required. After a thorough inspection, the building was cleared for continued use and residents were able to return to their rooms.
No injuries were reported and no residents were transported from the facility. Emergency crews cleared the scene shortly afterward.
