BARNEGAT – Two people were killed in a tragic crash last night, police said.
Around 10 p.m. on November 4, a Kia Forte was heading east on Route 72 when it went off the right side of the road. It then came back onto the roadway, crossed the center line into the oncoming lane. There, it collided with a tow truck heading west. The truck had a vehicle on its flatbed and another in tow.
Both people in the Kia were pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Their identities are not being released until their family is notified. The tow truck driver was uninjured.
The traffic around this area of Routes 72 and 532 was diverted for about eight hours.
The crash is being investigated by Barnegat Police Detective Jim Purcell. Agencies that responded and assisted included the Ocean County Medical Examiner, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI, Barnegat Volunteer Fire Company Station 11, Barnegat First Aid Squad, and the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
