STAFFORD — Police responded to a traffic hazard Monday morning after a large boat came off its trailer and ended up blocking a lane on Route 72.
According to the Stafford Township Police Department, officers were dispatched at about 10:37 a.m. on February 9 to the area of the Wawa at 320 Route 72 East following reports of a boat in the roadway. When officers arrived, they found the vessel resting in the right lane of Route 72 West.

An investigation determined the boat separated from its trailer as the driver was turning onto Route 72 from the access road near the convenience store. Police said the operator reported striking a patch of snow and ice, which caused the load to shift and fall.
No injuries were reported in the incident. Traffic was rerouted around the scene for roughly 45 minutes while a local towing company worked to place the boat back onto the trailer and clear the roadway.
Officer Sura is handling the investigation.
