STAFFORD – A Barnegat woman recently became the 10,000th person to be vaccinated for COVID-19 at Southern Ocean Medical Center in Manahawkin.
Retired dental hygienist Judy Rapoza received the milestone dose on March 12 at Hackensack Meridian Southern Ocean Medical Center’s Vaccination Center located at 1173 Beacon Avenue.
Her husband, Tom, accompanied her during the scheduled appointment, where both received their first dose of the Moderna vaccine.
“This is a happy day for both of us. Being vaccinated makes us feel safe and secure and opens up the possibilities of socializing with family and friends once again,” Rapoza said. The couple are scheduled to get their second dose of the vaccination next month.
Southern Ocean Medical Center marked the one-year anniversary of treating its first COVID-19 patient on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17.
The facility started administering vaccines in December 2020, beginning with frontline team members. The network is delivering 5,000 to 6,000 vaccine doses daily at medical centers and other sites throughout the state.
