JERSEY SHORE – After an eight month investigation, 29 people from Monmouth and Ocean counties face charges for racketeering, conspiracy, attempted murder, drug and gun trafficking and dogfighting.
Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni announced that the investigation is connected to a Bloods gang leader who commanded members to perform multiple criminal activities.
During the investigation titled “Operation Golden State,” officers recovered numerous firearms, a vehicle used in criminal activity, various quantities of cocaine and marijuana, 12 canines used in the dogfighting operation, and other evidence related to the dogfighting operation.
After investigation, police discovered that Xavier Reed, 30, of Hyson Road in Jackson Township, controlled an extensive criminal enterprise operating in Asbury Park, Neptune Township, Freehold and Lakewood.
Reed, a/k/a “HS”, rallied a gang alliance consisting of G-Shine Bloods, 47 Neighborhood Crips and the Grape Street Crips. These gangs worked towards controlling most of the illegal activity in Monmouth and Ocean Counties.
Reed administered punishment, controlled the channels for generating revenue from various quantities of drug sales (heroin, cocaine, prescription pills and marijuana) and administered the dog fighting ring. Individuals can earn thousands of dollars from just a single dog fight. All these activities gave Reed and the group funds and further advanced Reed’s power.
Within these organized crimes, the enterprise possessed, transferred and sold weapons that were responsible for more than a dozen shooting incidents in the area..
In February, the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals seized eight Pit Bull- type dogs in Monmouth and Ocean counties. These dogs are believed to be owned by Reed and were left outside in sub-freezing temperatures with bite marks on their limbs, necks and ears indicative of dogfighting.
