Parkway Reopened After Shut Down Near Exit 109

MIDDLETOWN – The Garden State Parkway has been reopened near Exit 109, where it was shut down due to downed power lines earlier today, according to NJ State Police.

The NJSP posted an update around 12:30 p.m. on May 20 stating: “Garden State Parkway NB and SB lanes have re-opened. Downed power lines have been removed.”

Earlier reports stated that traffic was at a standstill both northbound and southbound near Exit 109 as police and emergency personnel responded to the area. A report by The Lakewood Scoop stated that the shutdown began after two people were electrocuted.

“Two workers were injured as a result of the power lines and were transported to an area hospital in stable condition,” stated NJSP.

Traffic has since been restored to the area of the parkway near Exit 109.
