TOMS RIVER – Meals on Wheels Ocean County Executive Director James Sigurdson plans to retire Jan. 1, 2027, after more than 26 years with the organization.
Sigurdson notified the Board of Directors of his plans, giving the nonprofit time to begin a leadership transition while continuing its work serving seniors and other vulnerable residents across Ocean County.
During his tenure, Sigurdson helped expand the organization’s reach and services. Meals on Wheels Ocean County provides nutritious meals, support programs and social connection to residents who need assistance.
Wyatt Earp, president and CEO, said the board is grateful for Sigurdson’s years of service and the role he played in shaping the organization.
“His dedication to our mission and to the people we serve has helped shape Meals on Wheels Ocean County into the organization it is today,” Earp said.
The board has accepted Sigurdson’s retirement plan and has started a transition process aimed at maintaining services, supporting staff and volunteers, and preparing the organization for its next leader. Succession planning and other transition efforts will continue in the coming months.
Earp said the nonprofit remains financially sound and focused on its mission as it prepares for the future.
Sigurdson will continue serving as executive director until his retirement date and will work with the board to help ensure a smooth transition.
The organization said more information about the transition and opportunities to recognize Sigurdson’s service will be announced later.
