TOMS RIVER — Ocean County is beginning its celebration of the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary with a series of new street banners installed in downtown Toms River.
The Ocean County Department of Buildings and Grounds recently placed the banners along Hooper Avenue and Washington Street, highlighting the region’s participation in America250 festivities and honoring the country’s founding.
As the county seat, Toms River holds historical significance dating back to the Revolutionary War. Local contributions included privateering operations along the Jersey Shore and support from area residents who aided the fight for independence, according to county officials.
The display is intended to recognize that legacy while also building excitement for the semiquincentennial in 2026. Officials are encouraging residents and visitors to explore the downtown area and take in the patriotic installations as part of the broader celebration.
Additional events and initiatives tied to America250 are expected to be announced in the coming months.
