Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer confirmed that 38-year-old Matthew DeMartin pled guilty in court Thursday to First Degree Aggravated Manslaughter in the death of Sharon Falcetano.

The incident happened back in February of 2018. Police were called to the Glendale Motel for a report of an unresponsive female. 59-year-old Sharon Falcentano had been sharing a room with DeMartin. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

After a thorough investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Seaside Heights Police Department and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, DeMartin was arrested and charged with killing Falcetano.

During his admission of guilt before the court, DeMartin admitted that on February 21, 2018, he assaulted Ms. Falcetano, causing extensive internal injuries and then left her body in the motel room without calling for emergency aid.

DeMartin is scheduled to be sentenced on October 11.  At the time of sentencing, DeMartin will be subject to N.J.S.A. 2C:43-7.2, No Early Release which requires DeMartin to serve 85% of his sentence.  Prosecutor Billhimer will be seeking 30 years in state prison.
