Ocean County Man Charged In Drug Overdose Death

TOMS RIVER – A Lacey man has been charged in the overdose death of a Berkeley Township resident, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said Friday.

Charles Rice, 58, was charged with strict liability drug induced death in the death of a 25-year-old Berkeley Township resident. That man was found dead in a township residence of an apparent heroin and fentanyl overdose. A toxicology report confirmed those findings. An investigation led authorities to Rice.

Rice was also charged with two separate counts of distribution of heroin and possession with the intent to distribute heroin.

Rice was arrested at his Lacey home by detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and the Berkeley Township Police Department. He was taken to Ocean County Jail and is awaiting a detention hearing.
