POINT PLEASANT BORO – The Lovelandtown Bridge will close for approximately two months starting January 5 to allow crews to complete critical structural work, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
The Route 13, also known as Bridge Avenue, spans over the Point Pleasant Canal connecting Point with Bay Head, will undergo a re-tensioning of its main support cables, a process transportation officials say is essential to maintaining the long-term safety and reliability of the bridge.
The work is part of a broader $20.4 million preventative maintenance contract covering multiple drawbridges across Ocean, Monmouth and Middlesex counties. To complete the repairs, crews will construct temporary shoring towers to support the cable system while adjustments are made.
During the closure, eastbound drivers will be detoured by turning left onto Route 88, also known as Ocean Road, then right onto Bay Avenue before returning to Route 13. Westbound traffic will follow the reverse route, using Bay Avenue and Route 88 to bypass the closed span.
Transportation officials urge motorists to allow extra travel time and follow posted detour signs while work is underway.
