MANAHAWKIN – Halloween isn’t just for humans!

It’s time once again to dress your furry friends up in their spookiest costumes for the 12th annual Fall Furfest and Pet Costume Parade. Held at the Southern Ocean County Animal Facility in Manahawkin, this year’s parade will take place on Oct. 26 beginning at 1 p.m.

“This event is just so much fun for the whole family. Seeing all the pets dressed up in so many unique and creative costumes will make your day and get you in the Halloween spirit,” said Ocean County Freeholder Gerry P. Little, liaison to the Ocean County Board of Health.

Registration for the Pet Costume Parade begins at 1 p.m. sharp. The parade and judging will begin at 1:30 p.m.

“The costumes just seem to get better and better every year. Dozens of residents come out for this event and they really spend a lot of time getting creative and finding unique costumes for their pet,” said Daniel E. Regenye, Ocean County Health Department (OCHD) Public Health Coordinator.

Your pet could be a winner! The Halloween Costume Parade will feature prizes and ribbons in the following categories:

  • Scariest
  • Cutest
  • Funniest
  • Most Original
  • Best in Show!

All participants will receive a free door prize.

“The Southern Ocean County Animal Facility (SOCAF) really appreciates how the community really comes out to support this event every year. We have not only dogs in costume, but we are now seeing other family pets like cats, goats, ducks and many others furry friends all dressed up to compete,” said Patricia McCallum, SOCAF Manager.

While you enjoy all the cute pets in their costumes, make sure to take a walkthrough and meet all the wonderful cats and dogs the Ocean Animal Facilities has that are available for adoption. Every dog and cat adopted from the Ocean County Animal Facilities receives a veterinary exam, age appropriate vaccinations, is spayed/neutered, and microchipped.

“We also like to include many of our shelter pets in the fun by dressing them up as well. If you know of someone interested in adopting a cat or dog please bring them to the event,” said Mary Alano, OCAF Manager. “Overall, it’s just a great day to celebrate our county’s animal lovers and all these beautiful pets and the joy they bring to us.”

The Southern Ocean County Animal Facility is located at 360 Haywood Road in Manahawkin.
