JACKSON – Jackson Police officers located and rescued a missing man from a muddy area in the woods.

Officers Jody Benecke, Ryan Gladysz and Cassie Elbaum responded to a missing person report in the afternoon on September 17. The officers were told that the missing male was 69 years old and suffered from multiple medical conditions. According to the resident, the man had gone into the woods behind their house, located on Bethel Church Road, and had not been seen for several hours.

Police said that they first tried to call the man and track his phone, but found that his phone was left in his car that was parked in front of their residence. Ocean County Officers then arrived at the scene with a K-9 unit and drone to search the woods, but both were unsuccessful in finding the man.

Later that evening, Ocean County Sheriff’s Sgt. Stark along with Sheriff’s Officers Comeau and Grimes continued to investigate the woods. Police said that they discovered the missing man on his back stuck in mud that almost covered his face. The officers removed him from the mud and quickly called Jackson First Aid unit to have him transported to the nearest hospital.
