OCEAN COUNTY – A Lakewood man has been sentenced to ten years in prison for the brazen attack that took place inside the township’s municipal building last year.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced Friday that 48-year-old Reginald Patillo was sentenced for the February 7, 2019 incident in which he attacked a Lakewood resident as he entered the second floor elevator.

At the time of the incident, police said Patillo stabbed the resident multiple times in the head and neck. Municipal workers heard the altercation and sounded a panic alarm, prompting Lakewood Police Officers to respond to the scene.

While being questioned, Patillo attacked one of the officers by striking him with a closed fist. Patillo was subdued and placed into custody and the knife was recovered.

Patillo pleaded guilty to both charges back in November of 2019.

The sentence will be subject to the terms of the No Early Release Act, N.J.S.A. 2C:43-7.2, requiring Patillo to serve 85 percent of his ten year sentence.  The judge also sentenced Patillo to four years NJSP for Aggravated Assault Against a Law Enforcement Officer in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(5)(a).  The sentences will run concurrently.
