SEASIDE HEIGHTS – For a few weeks now, the Casino Pier’s giant Ferris wheel in Seaside Heights has been shining bright with its blue and yellow lights, the colors of Ukraine’s flag.

The flag first emerged in 1848 and represented the regions of the Ukrainian People’s Republic.

It represented their many yellow fields of crops grown under a deep blue sky. That was before the nation was absorbed into being another portion of the Soviet Union and forced to adopt the hammer and sickle flag.

The Ukraine flag was outlawed until 1991 when the USSR dissolved.

The Ferris wheel shines in support of the Ukraine people who are resisting the current invasion by Russian forces.
