TOMS RIVER – A fire alarm that went off early this morning at the Ocean County Justice Complex was deemed a false alarm, according to county administrator Carl Block.

The fire alarm went off in the Justice Complex early this morning, originating in the jail kitchen. Block noted that false alarms are not unusual in this building as those in jail cells could occasionally hit a sprinkler head, for example, triggering the alarm.

The entire building was evacuated to determine the cause of the alarm, said Block. This explains the strong police presence outside the building, as the Sheriff’s Department is located on the 3rd floor of that building. The 1st floor is court rooms, the 2nd is administration offices, and the 4th is the jail.

Block stated the fire department responded and shortly after the alarm went off, the fire chief deemed it a false alarm.
