TOMS RIVER – Ocean County officials will mark Independence Day with two community events celebrating American history, patriotism and the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States.

The celebration begins July 2 with the Stars and Stripes Spectacular Patriotic Concert and Drone Show at the Ocean County Parks Administration Building Bay-Front Field, 1198 Bandon Road.

The free event starts at 7:30 p.m. and will include a 25-piece orchestra conducted by Wilbur Whitman performing patriotic music. A drone show will follow the concert, lighting up the evening sky.

Food trucks, games, informational displays and a Revolutionary War-themed trailer focused on America’s Semiquincentennial celebration will also be available for attendees.

“Independence Day is a time to reflect on our nation’s history, celebrate the freedoms we enjoy and recognize the sacrifices that made those freedoms possible,” Ocean County Commissioner Robert S. Arace said. “The Stars and Stripes Spectacular provides a wonderful opportunity for families and friends to come together in a spirit of patriotism and community while enjoying an evening of entertainment.”

Parking for the July 2 event will be available at Cattus Island County Park, 1170 Cattus Island Boulevard. Free shuttle service will transport guests between the parking area and the concert site.

The county’s Independence Day observance continues July 4 with participation in the national Ringing from Sea to Shining Sea initiative, organized as part of the National Bell Festival’s recognition of America’s 250th birthday.

That event begins at 1 p.m. on the Ocean County Courthouse lawn and will include a public reading of the Declaration of Independence before the nationwide bell-ringing observance.

The Ocean County Board of Commissioners encouraged residents and visitors to take part in the events and recognize the generations of Americans who helped shape the nation.
