LACEY — Police in Lacey Township are still investigating an armed robbery reported Monday afternoon at the TD Bank branch in Forked River, while officials said there is no ongoing danger to the public.
Authorities said the holdup was reported at about 2:30 p.m. March 9 at the bank at 106 N. Main St. Investigators said a man went into the bank, demanded cash from a teller and displayed what appeared to be a black handgun.
Police said the suspect left with an undisclosed amount of money, then ran a short distance before apparently getting into a vehicle and leaving the area.
The man was described as being between about 5-foot-10 and 6 feet tall. He was last seen wearing jeans, a light-colored long-sleeve button-down shirt, a baseball cap, glasses and a surgical-style face mask, according to authorities.
The investigation remains active, and police said more details will be released when appropriate.
Around the same time as the robbery, Lacey Township school officials placed district buildings that were still in session under SECURE status as a precaution, police said. Investigators have not said the two situations were directly linked.
Police said the school district’s action was tied to an unrelated incident in the area of Route 9 and Lacey Road in Forked River. Under a SECURE status, students and staff are brought inside, exterior doors are locked and classes continue with limited disruption.
Authorities said no threats were made against any school, and all students and staff were safe.
