POINT PLEASANT BEACH — A $50,000 Powerball ticket sold in Ocean County remains unclaimed, and New Jersey Lottery officials are reminding players that time is running out to cash in.

The winning ticket was purchased at Wine Outlet, 526 Arnold Avenue in Point Pleasant Beach. The prize must be claimed by February 1, exactly one year from the drawing date. Under state rules, lottery prizes expire if not claimed within that timeframe.

Lottery officials say players should not assume old tickets are worthless.

In a recent case, a Mercer County resident discovered a Mega Millions ticket that had gone unchecked for four months and later learned it was worth $1 million. The prize was claimed just in time.

Players are encouraged to review old tickets carefully and confirm numbers using official tools. Instructions for checking tickets and claiming prizes are available through the New Jersey Lottery website.

If the Ocean County ticket is not claimed by the deadline, the prize money will be forfeited and returned to the state for designated public uses.
