ATLANTIC CITY – A Florida woman turned a $4 slot machine bet into a Fourth of July weekend jackpot worth more than $1 million at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City.
The woman, who chose to remain anonymous, won $1,025,716 shortly after midnight Sunday, July 5, while playing a “Wizard of Oz – I’ll Get You My Pretty” slot machine by Light & Wonder.
The machine, which has a 10-cent denomination, features the Wicked Witch of the West from the 1939 film “The Wizard of Oz.”
Casino officials said the prize was a wide area progressive jackpot. Those machines are connected across multiple locations, allowing jackpots to grow at the same time at different casinos. The progressive jackpots are paid by the slot machine companies.
Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City has 2,298 slot machines, including a private high-end slot salon, along with 128 table games, including poker, blackjack, baccarat, craps and roulette.
The casino resort sits on 17 acres along the Atlantic City Boardwalk and features entertainment, restaurants, lounges, nightlife, retail shops and other amenities.
