FREEHOLD – Two men have been sentenced for their roles in a July 2023 shooting in Asbury Park that killed one man and wounded two others, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced.

Ziamere Ivery, 18, of Neptune Township, received an 18-year prison sentence, and Michael Sally, 21, of Long Branch, was sentenced to seven years. Both men pleaded guilty in May and were sentenced Friday by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Jill G. O’Malley.

Ivery pleaded guilty to first-degree aggravated manslaughter and must serve 85 percent of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole under New Jersey’s No Early Release Act. Sally admitted to second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and must serve at least 42 months under the state’s Graves Act before parole consideration.

The shooting occurred shortly after 10:30 p.m. on July 3, 2023, at the Asbury Park Gardens apartment complex on Atlantic Avenue. Police found three adult male victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Two survived after being treated at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, while a third victim, 21-year-old Lativity Lyons of Asbury Park, died from his injuries. A fourth intended target suffered a minor injury but declined medical treatment.

An investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Bureau and Asbury Park Police Department led to the charges against Ivery and Sally. Ivery was initially charged as a juvenile before being waived to adult court.

Assistant Prosecutors Joseph Cummings and Travis Clark handled the case. Ivery was represented by Monika Mastellone of Freehold, and Sally was represented by Raymond Hamlin of Newark.
