Point Pleasant Beach Man Killed By Vehicle In Brielle

FREEHOLD – A Point Pleasant Beach man was struck and killed by a vehicle in the area of State Highway 71 and Bradley Avenue in Brielle in the early hours of Sept. 25, stated Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.

Alejandro Garciamerino, 26, was walking in the area at approximately 12:37 a.m. when he was struck by a 2018 Nissan Versa. He was pronounced dead at 12:56 a.m.

The driver, 57-year old Dr. James S. McCaughan of Belmar, was charged with third degree Causing Death While Driving with a Revoked or Suspended License, and issued two additional motor vehicle tickets. McCaughan has been released pending trial.

McCaughan is a thoracic surgeon at Community Medical Center, according to the hospital.

Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and Brielle Police Department are conducting the investigation.
