RUMSON – A Red Bank man has been arrested after a bullet pierced a Rumson home earlier this week, authorities said.
Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced Wednesday that 42-year-old Terry Haupt has been charged with second-degree certain persons not to possess a weapon, third-degree unlawful possession of a rifle, and fourth-degree possession of a large-capacity ammunition magazine.
Rumson police were called to a Meadowbrook Avenue residence around 3:24 p.m. on September 22 after a homeowner reported that a bullet came through a window. Investigators recovered a projectile inside the home, Santiago said.
An investigation by Rumson police and the prosecutor’s office determined that Haupt, who was in the area at the time, had a rifle and a large-capacity magazine. Authorities said he is legally prohibited from owning firearms.
The case has been assigned to Assistant Prosecutor Caitlin J. Sidley of the Major Crimes Bureau. Information on Haupt’s attorney was not immediately available.
Authorities noted that Haupt, like all defendants, is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
