WALL TOWNSHIP — A Monmouth County man has admitted to holding up a Wall Township bank at gunpoint and walking away with more than $27,000 in cash, federal prosecutors announced.
Jeffrey L. Kniffin, 51, of Wall, pleaded guilty July 22 before U.S. District Judge Zahid N. Quraishi to one count of armed bank robbery, according to U.S. Attorney Alina Habba.
Authorities say the robbery happened on the morning of October 23, 2024, when Kniffin entered a local bank with a loaded handgun. He approached a teller, demanded money, and repeatedly warned, “Don’t do anything stupid.” At one point, he pulled the gun from his pocket and pointed it at the teller before fleeing with roughly $27,072.
Law enforcement caught up with Kniffin just minutes later. Officers recovered the loaded weapon and more than $25,000 in stolen cash from Kniffin and his immediate surroundings.
Kniffin now faces up to 25 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is scheduled for November 24.
U.S. Attorney Habba credited FBI task force officers, Wall Township Police, and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office for their work on the case. The government is represented by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan S. Garelick.
