NEW BRUNSWICK – A Monmouth County-based attorney is now facing serious charges after he allegedly brought a loaded handgun to the Middlesex County Superior Courthouse.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office said 29-year-old Mark B. Jander of Freehold does not have a permit to carry the gun and has been charged with unlawful possession of a weapon.

Middlesex County Sheriff’s officers took Jander into custody Monday after the gun was found in a briefcase during the metal detector scan when he attempted to enter the main section of the building.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Middlesex County Sheriff Mildred Scott issued a press release Monday afternoon.

It is not clear what Jander was doing in the courthouse.
