MANCHESTER — A collision at the intersection of Route 70 and Manchester Boulevard sent three people to the hospital and caused major damage to both vehicles Saturday afternoon, according to police.

Manchester Township Police said officers responded to the crash around 1:24 p.m. November 8 and found a black 2005 Chevrolet Silverado and a black 2021 Buick Encore with heavy front-end damage. The Chevrolet had veered off the road and struck a traffic signal after the impact.

Investigators determined that the Buick, driven by 79-year-old Mary Morone of Manchester, was turning left from Route 70 onto Manchester Boulevard when it failed to yield to the eastbound Chevrolet, driven by 64-year-old Jonathan Gill, also of Manchester.

Morone and her passenger, 74-year-old Joseph Morone, were taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Gill was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he remained in stable condition, police said.

Emergency crews from the Manchester Division of Emergency Services, Robert Wood Johnson paramedics, and Priced Rite Towing responded, along with the New Jersey Department of Transportation.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, but preliminary findings indicate failure to yield was the primary cause of the crash. Patrolman Brendan Brush of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit is leading the investigation.
