JOINT BASE McGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST — The Joint Base was locked down for a short time this morning due to an active shooter with area travelers advised to stay clear of the area.
The lockdown was announced around 10:52 a.m. and all personnel on the base who were outdoors were advised to take cover. The lockdown included those at the civilian employment building and all schools and buildings on the base.
No shooter was found and lockdown was quickly lifted within a short time following an investigation that determined that there was no active shooter. The lockdown was stated to be a precautionary move while the matter was investigated.
The base put out a press release shortly after the lockdown was lifted.
“Our priority is the safety and security of everyone on the installation,” said Col. Michael Stefanovic, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst commander. “We worked closely with local law enforcement and emergency responders to ensure the situation was investigated and resolved as quickly as possible.”
At this time, no further details are available. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
