LAKEHURST – A Lakewood man was charged with drug offenses and traffic summonses after a hit-and-run in the borough.

Steven A. Mitryk, 54, was charged with possession of heroin, possession of Suboxone, possession of a hypodermic needle, possession of drug paraphernalia, being under the influence of CDS and driving while intoxicated.

He was also issued nine summonses for driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, possession of CDS in a motor vehicle, suspended driver’s license, unlicensed driver and failure to maintain lane.

Mitryk was taken to Ocean County Jail pending a court appearance.

Lakehurst Police responded to a three-car accident at 4:49 p.m. Dec. 19 at routes 70 and 547. Police confirmed that one car, a 2005 Honda Accord, had fled the scene.

Police later located that vehicle, being driven by Mitryk. Lakehurst Police said the man was exhibiting signs of being intoxicated, and had a Suboxone strip in plain sight.

Police searched Mitryk and the vehicle and turned up wax folds of suspected heroin, multiple strips of suspected Suboxone, a hypodermic syringe and other drug paraphernalia.

Mitryk also had an active Brick Township Municipal Court warrant for his arrest.
