MANCHESTER – Township high school freshman Patrick Allen qualified for the New Balance Indoor Nationals after running the 1600 meters in 4:32.5.
The performance ranked Allen 30th nationally among about 10,000 freshman competitors and placed him within the top 1% of high school runners needed to meet the event’s qualifying standard.
Allen reached the national stage despite a shortened indoor season caused by a minor injury outside of track and field. Boys running coach Jason Griffith said Allen’s resilience and national-level performance reflect both his talent and the strength of Manchester’s program.
With the indoor season complete, Allen is turning his attention to the outdoor season, where he hopes to qualify for Outdoor Nationals in both the 800 and 1600 meters.
