
JACKSON — A van transporting individuals with special needs was struck by a falling utility pole during a crash Wednesday afternoon along Toms River Road, authorities said.
The collision occurred on February 11 at around 3 p.m. on Route 571 near South Stump Tavern Road, according to Jackson Police Chief Mary Nelson.
Three people were inside the van at the time of the incident. Despite the impact and the utility pole landing on the vehicle, no injuries were reported. Police confirmed that none of the occupants required hospitalization.
The crash caused significant disruption in the area, with the northbound lane of Route 571 remaining closed into the evening hours as utility crews worked to repair the damaged pole and restore service.
The circumstances leading up to the crash were not immediately released. Authorities did not indicate whether any additional vehicles were involved.
