JACKSON — A Township man has been charged with murder after police say he fatally shot a woman outside an apartment complex Saturday morning.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said Shaquille Green, 29, was arrested and charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon in connection with the death of 28-year-old Toraya Reid, also of Jackson.
Police were called around 11 a.m. to the Paragon Apartment Complex on Larsen Road after a 911 caller reported gunfire and an unresponsive woman in the roadway. Responding officers found Reid near the exit of the complex with multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Additional officers spotted Green running along North New Prospect Road and took him into custody without incident. He was transported to Jackson Township Police Headquarters and later lodged in the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.
Investigators determined Green and Reid had been in a dating relationship, and prosecutors allege he is responsible for her death.
Billhimer credited the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Jackson Township Police Department, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office for their swift work in the case.
