LAKEWOOD – Authorities are currently investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Lakewood Friday evening.
According to officials, the crash occurred after a 2018 Chevrolet Impala driven by Mordechai Berkowitz, 20, of Lakewood, crossed over the double yellow lines on South Lake Drive.
As a result, Berkowitz collided head on with a 2017 Toyota Rav4, driven by Maria Flores-Moreno, 35, of Jackson, with Juana Lopez-Hernandez, 44, a citizen of Mexico, in the front passenger seat.
Berkowitz was brought to Jersey Shore University Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released. Flores-Moreno was brought to Jersey Shore University Hospital in Neptune and is presently listed in stable condition.
Lopez-Hernandez was brought to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood where she was pronounced deceased, officials said.
At this time, the crash remains under investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Lakewood Township Police Department, Brick Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit.
