JACKSON – It seemed as though a man was so hungry, he needed to break into someone’s home and steal their food.

A 46-year-old man has been arrested for burglary. In the early hours of the morning, police responded to call about a possible break-in on Danbury Court in the Four Seasons at Metedeconk development. The resident stated that he woke up due to his dog barking. Lights were on in his house that were not left on the night before, and the front window was smashed in.

When officers arrived, they had found the kitchen had food touched and left out. It was concluded that the unknown intruder had raided the refrigerator and ate some of the food. Officers also stated that the window was broken from the inside, confirming that the intruder broke the window upon exiting the home. Nothing else was stolen from the property, but both of the victim’s cars were broken into.

A K-9 from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department was brought to the scene to seek out the suspect, but he was not found.

Officers then checked the neighbor to find that several mailboxes were opened and examined. Video footage from another resident’s home showed the possible suspect. It was also detected that the suspect made an attempt to enter the community’s clubhouse.

Later on, at around 2 p.m. officers received a call about a suspicious individual. A man was found on the ground by a pole on Harmony Road. The man had fit the description of the suspect from the earlier break-in scene and was immediately arrested. The man was later interviewed and resulted in taking on charges from the incident.

Joseph DeRenzo was charged with 3 counts of burglary and 1 count of attempted burglary. He was processed and is now lodged in the Ocean County Jail.
