Motor Vehicle Crash Seriously Injures Bicyclist

HOWELL – Police continue to investigate an incident that occurred on White Street on the evening of May 1, where a vehicle collided with a bicyclist, causing serious injury.

A 2011 Nissan Altima, driven by a 17-year old male accompanied by his 13-year old sibling, was heading westbound on White Street, on the east side of Route 9 in between Conover St. and Georgia Tavern Rd., when it collided with a bicyclist emerging from a wooded area before it, according to police.

The bicyclist entered the roadway perpendicular to the Nissan, sustaining serious life-threatening injuries upon collision. The vehicle’s passengers were uninjured in the accident.

The driver and sibling remained at the scene and called 911. The bicyclist was treated at the scene by MONOC and then transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Police reported that the bicyclist is in critical condition.

No charges or tickets have been issued at this time.

Howell Township Police and The Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART) responded to the incident.

The investigation is being conducted by Patrolman Matthew Cherney #629 of the Howell Police Department Traffic Safety Division and Agent Reggie Grant of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
