NEW JERSEY – It’s a day etched in all of our minds. September 11th, 2001. Thousands of people lost their lives in the worst terror attack on our soil. The mere mention of 9/11 brings back horrifying memories for each and every one of us. The wounds are still raw – for many, they will never heal no matter how much time passes.
The anniversary of that sunny Tuesday morning is here once again.
On the morning of September 11, 2001, members of the al-Qaida terrorist network hijacked four commercial airliners in a coordinated assault on the United States.
Two planes were flown into the twin towers of New York City’s World Trade Center, causing the skyscrapers to collapse within hours. A third jet struck the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, while passengers aboard a fourth flight, United Airlines Flight 93, fought back against the hijackers, causing the plane to crash in a Pennsylvania field.
Nearly 3,000 people were killed, making it the deadliest terrorist attack in American history, and the tragedy reshaped U.S. security, foreign policy and daily life for decades to follow.

Many shore area events and tributes will be held today. Jersey Shore Online will have more in the coming days and in our newspapers.
Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the families of all of the victims.
