Iconic Wunder Wiener Destroyed In Crash, Councilman Injured

BERKELEY – Police continue to investigate why a vehicle crashed into der Wunder Wiener, the landmark food truck on Route 9, destroying it.

The business is owned by Gerald W. LaCrosse, 74, who is a councilman in Beachwood. He was inside the building at the time of the collision. He was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. His condition is not yet known.

Police said a vehicle was heading south on Route 9 when it left the roadway and struck a power line and the food truck.

Power was shut down in the area. Southbound traffic was being re-routed through Pine Beach. Some northbound traffic took the road around the back of the Beachwood Mall.

Police are asking if anyone has information relating to the crash to contact them at 732-341-1132 ext. 2125.
