OCEAN COUNTY – Two Brick Township residents were indicted for animal cruelty by a county grand jury Jan. 8.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D Billhimer said Jonathon Correa and Kiara Martinez were indicted for one count each. The county alleges that they left their dog, 13-month-old Pit bull Princess, outside on their townhome balcony for hours on July 1, 2018.

Temperatures reached 97 degrees that day. Several neighbors reported the distressed dog to the Brick Township Police Department.

Princess was taken to Emergency Veterinary Service but succumbed to complications from heat stroke.
