Street Crimes Unit Make Several Arrests On Drugs And More

  BRICK – Throughout the end of August, the Street Crimes Unit (SCU) of the Brick Township Police Department made multiple arrests including drugs and other charges.

  On August 16, the SCU was investigating a home on Cottonwood Drive, based on suspicion of heroin distribution.

  With assistance from K9 Officer Scott Smith and his partner K9 Echo, police seized approximately 170 wax folds of heroin packaged for resale and an undisclosed amount of currency in the suspect’s car.

  As a result, Joseph Reavis, 26, of Manchester, was charged with two counts of Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS), three counts of Possession of a CDS, Possession of a CDS with the Intent to Distribute, and Possession of Paraphernalia. He was lodged in Ocean County Jail.

  Three days later at the same home on Cottonwood Drive, police continued their investigation and arrested Ryan Bannon, 39, of Brick, and Katherine Smith, 33, of Brick.

  Bannon was charged with two counts of Distribution of a CDS, four counts of Possession of a CDS, Possession of a CDS and Possession of Paraphernalia. Smith was charged with two counts of Distribution of a CDS, two counts of Conspiracy to Commit Possession of a CDS, two counts of Possession of a CDS, two counts of Possession of Prescription Legend Drugs, Possession of Paraphernalia and Possession of Hypodermic Syringes. Both Bannon and Smith were lodged in Ocean County Jail.

  On August 20, detectives received information that a wanted person, Kevin Kries, 22, of Brick, was at his mother’s home on Silverton Road. Detectives attempted to arrest Kries but he fled out the back door. Detectives were able to quickly apprehend him and he was placed under arrest.

  In addition to the outstanding warrant, Kries was charged with Hindering Apprehension, Obstruction and Resisting Arrest. He was lodged in Ocean County Jail.

  Kries’ mother, Christina Torres, 49, of Brick, was also placed under arrest at the scene for Hindering Apprehension and Obstruction. Torres was released on a Summons.

  On August 25, a SCU Detective observed a man masturbating in his vehicle in the parking lot of the Pleasure Zone on Chambers Bridge Road. The man, identified as James Belcher, 74, of Neptune, was issued a summons for charging him with Lewdness and released on scene.
