Shoplifting Investigation Leads To Drug Charges

  BRICK – Police responding to a shoplifting call arrested a woman for drugs as well.

  Erika Martinez, 38, of Lakewood, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession of a Prescription Legend Drug, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Shoplifting and Possession of Burglar Tools.

  At around 9 p.m. on November 19, a Walmart employee called Brick Police about a woman that was cutting security devices off televisions.

  Brick Police Street Crimes Unit (SCU) said they saw Martinez doing this. And, as she was leaving, she was approached by the officers.

  Police said that during the investigation Martinez explained to officers she has a “cutter” inside her purse which was lying on the front seat of her vehicle. She stated she was removing the security devices from the televisions so she could steal them. During a search, she was found to be in possession of suboxone, ecstasy and amphetamine.

 Martinez was lodged in Ocean County Jail.

Charges are merely accusations until proven in a court of law.
