WALL – Authorities have charged a 91-year-old Brick resident in connection with a hit-and-run crash last month in Wall that left a landscaper injured after his riding mower was struck along a busy roadway.
According to Wall Township police, the collision occurred around 11 a.m. on December 8 on Ocean Road. A 34-year-old landscaper was operating a riding mower fitted with a tan leaf collection box when it was hit by a passing vehicle, driven by John Snyder, sending him off the mower and onto the ground.
Emergency responders transported the landscaper to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for a concussion and other minor injuries, police said.
Investigators said the vehicle involved continued westbound after briefly slowing down. Police released surveillance footage and public alerts in the days following the crash to help identify the driver. The video showed the moment of impact and the vehicle leaving the scene.
Further investigation traced the vehicle’s route through the Allenwood section of Wall and into neighboring Brick and Howell townships. Officers eventually located a gray 2023 Subaru Crosstrek in Brick that matched the description and showed damage consistent with the incident.
Snyder cooperated and told officers he believed he had struck a “tan garbage can” on the side of the road while returning home from an appointment.
An auto body shop that later repaired the vehicle reported finding debris lodged in the grille before repairs were completed, police said.
Snyder was issued five motor vehicle summonses, including leaving the scene of an accident involving injuries and reckless driving.
