BRICK – A 20-year-old Brick Township woman has been charged with attempted murder and several other offenses after allegedly stabbing her 2-year-old brother on November 1, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.
Marlene Rodriguez was charged with Attempted Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child in connection with the incident.
Around 2:30 p.m., Brick Township police officers responded to a 911 call at a residence on Burke Lane, where they found the boy suffering from a stab wound to his chest. The child was transported to Jersey Shore University Hospital in Neptune and is listed in stable condition.
An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, the Brick Township Police Detective Bureau, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit determined that Rodriguez, the victim’s sister, was responsible for the stabbing.
Rodriguez was taken into custody at Brick Township Police Headquarters and transported to the Ocean County Jail, where she remains pending a detention hearing.
Prosecutor Billhimer commended all the agencies involved for their coordinated efforts in the investigation.
