BRICK – A township man is facing charges after allegedly fleeing the scene of a crash that left a passenger injured, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced.
Nicholas Lotito, 54, was charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash resulting in serious bodily injury following a single-vehicle crash on July 2 at the intersection of Schoener Drive and Brick Boulevard.
Police say Lotito was driving a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro with two passengers around 8 p.m. when he lost control and struck a utility pole. All three occupants fled the scene on foot, authorities said.
One passenger was later taken to Ocean University Medical Center by a friend, treated for injuries and released. The second passenger was uninjured. Lotito was located nearby as he attempted to return home on foot and was taken into custody without incident. He was also transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
Investigators obtained a court-authorized warrant for a blood draw from Lotito. Toxicology results are pending. He was subsequently taken to the Ocean County Jail, where he remains held pending a detention hearing.
Prosecutor Billhimer credited the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad, Brick Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit for their collaborative efforts.
