BRICK – A Brick Township man has been arrested and charged in connection with a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a 15-year-old boy on an electric bicycle, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced.

Investigators said the crash happened around 10:55 p.m. on November 8 at the intersection of Midstreams Road and Midstreams Place. A Nissan Rogue, driven by 43-year-old William Donohoe of Brick, was traveling north on Midstreams Place when it turned left onto Midstreams Road and struck the teen cyclist. The driver allegedly failed to stop and continued westbound after the collision.

The victim was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he remains hospitalized in stable condition.

While police were aiding the victim, officers observed Donohoe walking toward the scene from a distance. An investigation determined he was the driver who fled after the crash.

Officers said Donohoe appeared intoxicated and was unable to complete field sobriety tests. He was arrested for driving under the influence and taken to Ocean University Medical Center in Brick, where a court-authorized blood draw was performed. Results of the test are pending.

Donohoe has been charged with knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash resulting in serious bodily injury and assault by auto. He remains in custody at the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.

Billhimer credited the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad, the Brick Township Police Department, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit for their work on the case.
