LAKEWOOD – A Lakewood man has been charged with attempted murder after stabbing someone at the township’s municipal complex Thursday.

Reginald Patillo, 47, was also charged with aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.

Patillo attacked another township resident who was entering an elevator on the second floor of the municipal building around 11 a.m. Feb. 7. He stabbed the victim multiple times in the head and neck.

Municipal employees activated a panic button upon hearing an altercation. Police officers responded to the scene. While questioning Patillo, he punched an officer with a closed fist. While being subdued, a knife was recovered.

Both the officer and stab victim were taken to an area hospital for treatment.
